A lesson
What happens in a lesson
Every lesson follows the same three steps, whatever the guitar.
- 01
Step 1: Tune and warm up
A few minutes to tune, settle and play something you already know.
- 02
Step 2: Work on one thing
Your teacher picks one thing to build: a chord change, a rhythm or a short passage.
- 03
Step 3: Plan the week
The lesson ends with a song, and a short plan for practice at home.
Playing with others
Where the guitar meets a bass line and a beat
Band lab is a weekly group for students who have the basics and want to play songs together. A teacher listens, stops the song, fixes one thing and starts again.
There is a teen group on Thursday evening and an adult group on Saturday. Playing at a showcase is always a choice.

At home
What to have at home
Ask your teacher first
Before you buy or rent a guitar, ask. A teacher can tell you the size and the kind to look for, and what to leave on the shelf.
Before you buy a guitarA tuner
A clip-on tuner or a tuner app on your phone. Tune at the start of every practice.
A quiet corner
A chair without arms, a stand and a place where practice is not in the way is enough to start.
A little, often
Short, regular practice helps more than one long session at the weekend.
Not sure which guitar?
A placement visit is the way to find out. A teacher listens, you talk, and we match you.
