Safety routines
Windows and open doors
Every lesson room has a window in its door, or the door stays open.
Parents may sit in
A parent is welcome to sit in on a lesson, and the school has a bench by the front door for waiting.
Who may collect a student
We hand a younger student only to the grown-ups on your pickup list, and we ask for ID from anyone we do not know.
Earplugs
Earplugs are on the shelf in the band rooms for anyone who would like them.

Family policies
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
When to stay home
A student with a fever or a stomach illness stays home until they are well. Tell your teacher by text, or call the front desk, and we will offer the lesson time to the waitlist.
Closures for weather and holidays
We close for school holidays, and when a storm or a heat warning makes the roads or the building hard to reach. A text and a post on our social pages go out that morning.
Drop-off and pickup
Parents of a student under thirteen wait on the bench by the front door, or in the room if they would like to. We hand a younger student only to the grown-ups on your pickup list, and we ask for ID from anyone we do not know.
Watching class and recitals
A parent is welcome to sit in on a lesson, especially in the first weeks. Showcases are open to family and friends, and we ask everyone to stay seated during a song and silence their phones.
Leaving the school
We ask for a month's notice before your last lesson, in writing or by email, so we can offer the time to the waitlist. A term in progress is settled with the front desk.
What to wear and bring
Wear what is comfortable for playing. Keep the nails on your fretting hand short, and bring your own picks, strap and tuner if you have them. On showcase nights, wear what you like.
Phones
Phones stay in a pocket or a bag during lessons, unless your teacher asks you to record an example to practice with or to use a tuner.
Questions about how we work?
Ask at the front desk or at your placement visit. We would rather you ask.
